VIVAnews – Prabowo Subianto melihat peluang emas dari budidaya pohon aren. Pasalnya, selain sektor pangan, Prabowo juga akan concern pada swasembada energi terbarukan, seperti pohon aren.

Dia mengatakan, pohon aren bisa menghasilkan kolang-kaling, gula aren, sagu, dan tuak. “Terpenting pohon aren bisa menghasilkan etanol,” kata calon presiden yang diusung partai Gerindra itu.

Prabowo mengatakan itu dalam diskusi Peran Pengusaha Nasional Menghadapi Krisis Global Dalam Merebut Pasar Lokal yang diselenggarakan Himpunan Pengusaha Pribumi Indonesia (HIPPI) di Hotel Gran Melia Jakarta, Rabu 11 Maret 2009.

Etanol dikenal bisa mensubstitusi minyak tanah dan bahan bakar. Prabowo memperkirakan satu hektar lahan pohon aren bisa menghasilkan 20 ton etanol per tahun. “Padahal kita punya 59 juta hektar lahan hutan yang rusak. Kalau bisa ditanami aren diselingi tanaman lain, bisa swasembada energi,” katanya.

Dengan adanya swasembada energi, Prabowo mengatakan, Indonesia tidak perlu lagi mengimpor 900 ribu barel bahan bakar tiap tahun. Karena, hanya dengan 4 juta hektar pohon aren dapat menghasilkan 80 juta ton etanol tiap tahun. Dengan asumsi satu ton bisa menghasilkan 6 barel, maka 480 juta barel dihasilkan dalam setahun.

Prabowo menjelaskan, dengan adanya swasembada energi, Indonesia tidak perlu lagi impor bahan bakar, bahkan bisa ekspor.

“Dengan asumsi 1 hektar bisa dikerjakan 6 orang, jika ada 4 juta hektar akan mempekerjakan 24 juta orang,” katanya.
